The market of solid-state drives (SSDs) yet has to take off, but the competition between leading suppliers of memory products is already heating up. On Tuesday Super Talent announced its new family of solid-state drives that boasts with higher performance compared to previous-generation lineup that was a little more than a quarter ago.

“In this, our third generation of SATA SSDs, we’ve taken performance to incredible new heights, with sustained read and write speeds that will leave any hard disk drive in the dust. At the same time, our MasterDrive SSDs are among the most cost effective solid state storage solutions available,” said Joe James, director of marketing at Super Talent.

These new Super Talent MasterDrive SSDs are based on a sophisticated new multi-channel Serial ATA-II controller and provide tangible performance improvement over the previously-released solutions by the company. In addition to that, the novelties should be generally more affordable: Super Talent claims that 120GB (128GB) multi-level cell-based (MLC) solid state drive will cost just $419, substantially down from $699 earlier this year in-spite of performance increase.

The new Super Talent MasterDrive OX-series of MLC-based SSDs provides 150MB/s sequential read speed, 100MB/s sequential write speed and will be available in 30GB (32GB), 60GB (64GB) and 120GB (128GB) capacities with 1-year limited warranty. In addition, Super Talent offers MasterDrive PX-series solid-state drives that feature single-level cell flash and sport 170MB/s sequential read speed, 130MB/s sequential write speed and will be available in 30GB (32GB) and 60GB (64GB) capacities with 3-year warranty. Both MasterDrive OX and PX are primarily aimed at notebooks and come in 2.5” form-factor.

Super Talent’s new flash-based drives are among the fastest in the industry now, though, they are not as fast as recently launched SSDs from Intel Corp. and Micron. Nevertheless, with huge progress that solid state drives in general and Super Talent’s SSDs in particular have been making, it is likely to expect a new breed of products that will offer even higher performance at even lower price shortly.
