A startup on Thursday launched its Gboard, a keypad that simplifies usage of Gmail service. The device seems to be rather interesting, however, the vast majority of those, who principally use keyboard shortcuts have most likely assigned appropriate programmable buttons for certain functions.
The Gboard keypad features 19 Gmail shortcuts that allow to easily utilize functions of Gmail without using mouse. Potentially, this makes email usage much easier since one should not reach for mouse in order to send an email, open new thread, compose new email and so on. Those, who own rather expensive keyboards with programmable keys can already enjoy similar benefits by assigning their “spare” keys for appropriate functions.
While the device seem to be useful, it does not improve fundamental flaws of Gmail, such as rather poor settings that are not easy to manage, slow response time and others.
The Gboard costs $19.99, which is a price of an inexpensive keyboard, and is available online only at present. The device requires a spare USB port.
