PowerColor, a leading supplier of ATI Radeon graphics cards, is holding a contest that allows three lucky ones to become “one of the first” owners of next-generation DirectX 11-supporting graphics cards from ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. The results of the contest will be announced on the 5th of October and that may be the day of the official launch of the ATI Radeon HD 5000-series graphics boards.

In order to take part in the contest, participants should go to the contest website, download design elements from it, incorporate them into well-looking wallpaper, screensaver or IM chat icons, upload the results to a special Web page and wait for visitors to choose the best of the best. Obviously, design skills and appropriate software are compulsory for success. Creators of the best artworks in each category will be awarded with PowerColor’s ATI Radeon HD 5000-series graphics cards that support DirectX 11 application programming interface.

Designers will not be the only ones with a chance to win prizes: voters will have a chance to win one of twenty Go! Green HD4670 graphics boards.

The contest consists of three phases:

  • Phase 1. Design Submission: September 1 – September 20;
  • Phase 2. Vote: September 21st – September 30;
  • Phase 3. Winners set to be announced on the 5th of October.

Even though PowerColor does not directly state that ATI will release its highly-anticipated Evergreen family of graphics processing units on the 5th of October, 2009, it is unlikely that the company will send graphics cards to winners before the announcement or a considerably after it since it promises to participants a chance to become one of the first owners of DirectX 11 hardware. All in all, it is very likely that the official launch of the new family is scheduled on early October.
