Patriot Unleashes Monstrous USB Flash Drive
[06/17/2009 05:38 AM]Patriot Memory on Wednesday followed its rival Kingston Memory with monstrous USB flash drive with 128GB capacity, which is higher than the capacity of solid-state drives in many notebooks.
Patriot Extreme Performance Xporter Magnum can boast not only with unprecedented capacity of 128GB, which is equal to 14 – 15 dual-layer DVD movies, but also with 210x read speed, or equivalent of 31MB/s data transfer rate. With such read speed, it will take more than an hour to completely unload the 128GB USB drive and, considering that writing takes longer than reading, even more time it will take to record data onto the unit.
“Patriot is elated to bring the consumer a product that is unprecedented in the market. The Magnum gives the consumer unequaled storage flexibility to make video libraries. Even in this age of Blu-Ray movies, you can store at least 14 titles and with the incredible speeds for read and write, the capabilities for storage and compiling information are endless,” said Meng Jay, Patriot's Product Manager.
Even though both Patriot and Kingston promote their 128GB drives for data carrying, it is more than likely that the vast majority of consumers will simply archive their data on such USB drives.
Unlike its rival, Patriot did not reveal whether the units will be build to order only. Besides, the company also did not announce the price, which may be around $500.
